Sobrecarga y Estrés Percibido en Cuidadores de Pacientes con Trastornos Psicóticos y Hospitalizaciones Recurrentes

Introducción: El cuidado prolongado de personas con trastornos psicóticos y hospitalizaciones recurrentes puede generar sobrecarga física, emocional y social en los cuidadores informales. Objetivo: Determinar los niveles de sobrecarga y estrés percibido, así como su relación con las condiciones del cuidado. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo y transversal en 21 cuidadores informales de pacientes atendidos en el Hospital de Salud Mental “Dr. Miguel Vallebueno”, Durango. Se aplicaron la Escala de Sobrecarga del Cuidador de Zarit y la Escala de Estrés Percibido (PSS-14). Los datos se analizaron mediante estadística descriptiva y correlación de Spearman. Resultados: El 90.5% de los participantes fueron mujeres, con edad media de 52.5 ± 9.9 años. El tiempo promedio como cuidador fue de 8.6 ± 6.9 años y la dedicación diaria de 9.3 ± 3.1 horas. El 61.9% presentó sobrecarga intensa y el 57.1% estrés percibido alto. Se observaron correlaciones positivas entre estrés y sobrecarga (rₛ = 0.439; IC 95%: 0.009–0.732; p = 0.046) y entre estrés y horas de cuidado (rₛ = 0.471; IC 95%: 0.049–0.750; p = 0.031). Conclusión: La elevada sobrecarga y el estrés identificados evidencian la necesidad de apoyo psicoeducativo e institucional para los cuidadores en los servicios de salud mental
